Liberia_Jaekyoung Ko 2025

Liberia, located in West Africa, has been free from war for about 20 years, yet the situation remains fragile, and conflict could break out again at any time. For now, the presence and supervision of the United Nations, the United States, and the West African Union seem to be keeping peace in place.  The more we get to know the children, the more heartbreaking their reality becomes — they are constantly lacking food and basic necessities. At times, we feel deeply discouraged from a human perspective, but we continue our mission because we believe God is at work. We are also strengthened by the love and dedication of those who, even from far away, send their support so that these children may eat and live.  As our after-school program is held in a church, we mainly teach spelling, grammar, and writing through the Bible. We also help students practice arithmetic, much like Korean-style study rooms, and encourage children who cannot yet read or write to express their feelings through drawings.  As a reward, students can earn scholarship points that go toward their tuition or school uniforms. However, some stepmothers and stepfathers refuse to send their children to the program, instead sending them to sell goods in the market or to work at car repair shops and metal workshops — even though child labor is legally prohibited here.  Please keep us in your prayers. Though we hear troubling news from every direction in these end times, may you experience the peace that comes from God, and may the good works of Global Children Foundation continue to grow and may its ministry overflow with God’s abundant grace.
