South AmericaIn São Gabriel da Cachoeira, Brazil, about 98% of the residents are from indigenous tribes. There is virtually no industry in the area, so people survive by entering the jungle to plant mandioca (cassava) and bananas, which are their staple foods. In recent years, a deeply troubling issue has emerged — a high suicide rate among indigenous children and youth. The main causes are a lack of hope for the future, as well as the loss of their language, traditional identity, and cultural connection between their tribal heritage and modern Brazilian society. As a result, many children and adolescents suffer from depression and despair. In the midst of these difficult circumstances, the monthly food support provided through Global Children Foundation (GCF) has become a great source of comfort and joy for the indigenous children. At least 64 children are being protected from hunger through GCF’s support. We sincerely thank God and all the mothers of Global Children Foundation for their love and generosity that bring hope and nourishment to these children.
