Ukraine_Chulkyu Park 2025
East EuropeThe once peaceful land of Ukraine has been devastated by the invasion of Russia — a country once considered a brother nation. More than 70% of families have been broken apart, and the remaining youth are struggling to adapt to the difficult realities they face. In the midst of this hardship, through the support of GCF, we have been able to actively reach out to children from marginalized families and refugee backgrounds. As older brothers and sisters began caring for the younger ones, and as young adults got involved in serving, genuine relationships started to form. Smiles began to return to the children’s faces, and they started to participate more actively in gatherings. In addition to the 30 families we regularly support and the 13 children who receive meals, the community’s response has been overwhelmingly positive. Many people are participating directly or indirectly, and this has not only enhanced the meal and sharing programs but also created a powerful evangelistic impact in our ministry. When we first met the children, they wouldn’t respond when spoken to. They would sit quietly in a corner and refuse to join any activities. But now, they come up to us on their own, tugging at our clothes, hugging us, and showing warmth and affection. It is truly heartwarming to see the walls of fear and mistrust come down and to witness them relating to one another like family — understanding, comforting, and supporting each other. What we have learned is that one-time assistance cannot bring true change. It is the regular, ongoing care and service that softens hardened hearts. Amid the great pain of war, we have witnessed even deeper needs and more profound transformation. We are deeply grateful that GCF’s unconditional and continuous support is bringing healing, recovery, and bright hope to the children and youth who remain in Ukraine.
