Unrest in Haiti has led to the evacuation of all foreign embassies, including the U.S. Embassy, as well as missionaries and businesspeople, leaving the country designated as a no-travel zone. Among those forced to leave was a Korean organization that had been running a school in the Tourgeau area of Port-au-Prince, near the city’s garbage dump. Their departure left 145 children, who had been receiving education and meals, abandoned without any alternatives, forcing them back to scavenging through trash piles and begging on the streets.  Our organization chose not to turn a blind eye in this situation. Despite the challenging environment, we resumed educational activities, provided food, and began instilling a renewed sense of hope for these children, even though it was late in the school year. The school, now operating from a temporary structure, has sustained severe damage and requires extensive repairs. Yet, we see this challenge as a blessing from the Lord.
